Parents First

Parents First is by parents and for parents. It is designed to improve parents' and children's self-esteem and self-motivation in order to build the confidence to take on new challenges. It cuts through the waffle and explains some of the key current research about how the human brain works and gives some practical advice on how to apply what is now known to studying and learning at school. Many parents, especially those with children coming up to or just starting Secondary school, feel frustrated because they don't know how or where to begin to help their child with the many challenges they face in their new environment. Garry and Kay explore how parents can help their kids to learn effectively and offer parents a deeper understanding of how they can support their children with confidence - no matter what their own school experiences were. Challenges like homework, foreign language classes, the change from class-based to discipline-based teaching, moving from room to room throughout the day can often prove too much for children without practical and effective support from home. Parents First puts parents and carers right at the centre of the education process, raising the aspirations and achievements of children.
